The Center for Social Inclusion


The Center for Social Inclusion (“CSI”) is a fast-paced, collaborative, cutting-edge national policy strategy organization that works to transform structural racial inequity into structural opportunity. As a multi-issue racial justice organization, CSI works at the intersection of big ideas and grassroots advocacy. We work with community groups and national organizations to develop policy ideas, foster effective leadership, and develop communications tools for an opportunity-rich world in which we all will thrive. CSI identifies strategic opportunities for structurally transformative policies that will create inclusion for communities of color and solutions to some of nation’s biggest problems. CSI catalyzes ideas and helps communities of color and national organizations alike make the ideas operational. CSI seeks a Chief of Staff to join its senior leadership team and manage the programs, strategies and strategic relationships of the organization.

Key Functions:

The Chief of Staff is a key senior level manager who reports directly to the President and is responsible for providing programmatic leadership through the management of all program staff, strategy development, program management, organizational networking, alliance building and relationship management. The Chief of Staff should possess a strong and proven non-profit program management background in the racial justice field, including development and deployment of policy reform advocacy strategies, partnership cultivation and development and management of collaborative staff teams.

This is a creative, strategic and central management role with primary responsibilities for programmatic strategy, planning, implementation, staffing and evaluation. The Chief of Staff develops, directs and leads a six person program team who, in turn, ensure the delivery and impact of CSI’s programs. This professional must possess a combination of strategic thinking skills, policy development and analysis skills, management and organizational skills and substantial experience. We seek a professional with a demonstrated ability to implement and manage the daily logistical demands of a program centered staff who work cross-functionally to respond to the needs of the organization and its constituents.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as the chief program director, after the President;

  • Develops and implements all policy objectives, strategies, and operating plans for the organization’s programs, including annual strategies and work plans;

  • Manages and directs all program activities of the organization, including research, advocacy and leadership;

  • Supports fundraising, including funder and donor cultivation and stewardship;

  • Coordinates and supports high level organizational networking and alliance-building to support the effectiveness of the organization;

  • Keeps the President, the senior management team and ultimately the Board of Directors, informed of all program issues and accomplishments.

  • Leads the development and implementation of program evaluation to support the effectiveness and learning culture of the organization, as well as the organization’s ability to understand and communicate it’s impacts;

  • Supports program budget development each year;

  • Monitors program budgets to ensure that spending remains within budget;

  • Supports staff training and development of program staff;

  • Evaluates the Director of Research and the Director of Advocacy and ensures the timely and appropriate evaluation of program staff two to three times per year and keeps the President apprised of program staff development and effectiveness.


SUPERVISION:

The Chief of Staff reports to the President and supervises the Director of Research and the Director of Advocacy (currently open positions).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to racial justice;

  • Demonstrated skills in policy advocacy, strategy development and non-profit management;

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in social sciences or business, or a Law Degree;

  • At least seven to ten years relevant work experience;

  • Strong ability to work closely with others in a small organization with a team-building culture;

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral;

  • Open to and easily embraces new technology that supports workplace effectiveness;

  • Expert at Word, Powerpoint, Excel and knowledge of Salesforce and Access are a plus;

  • Friendly, collaborative, upbeat work style is highly desirable.
