Development Officer


The Center for Social Inclusion


The Center for Social Inclusion (“CSI”) is a fast-paced, collaborative, cutting-edge national policy strategy organization that works to transform structural racial inequity into structural opportunity. As a multi-issue racial justice organization, CSI works at the intersection of big ideas and grassroots advocacy. We work with community groups and national organizations to develop policy ideas, foster effective leadership, and develop communications tools for an opportunity-rich world in which we all will thrive. CSI identifies strategic opportunities for structurally transformative policies that will create inclusion for communities of color and solutions to some of nation’s biggest problems. CSI catalyzes ideas and helps communities of color and national organizations alike make the ideas operational.

Key Functions:

Reporting to and working in close collaboration with the Vice President (VP), Marketing and Communications, the Development Officer will design and execute on a comprehensive development strategy for the Center for Social Inclusion.  The Development Officer will oversee and execute on both institutional and individual giving. The main responsibility for this position, working with the President, VP, Management team and Staff, is to advance the work of the Center for Social Inclusion by identifying, researching, strategizing, cultivating and soliciting revenue in support of priority campaigns and program initiatives and to serve as the contact person for current and prospective foundation relationships.  Other duties include, but are not limited to: manage annual giving campaign; write letters of inquiry, grant proposals, reports and other correspondence as required by funders; develop and manage a calendar of deadlines for proposals, reports and other communications with current and prospective foundation funders; maintain data and contacts in Sales Force to ensure complete and accurate information of activity, including actions, proposals, and contact information, to document the process; support the development of an aggressive individual giving program; participate with staff in planning and executing special events; and help to develop the Board of Directors’ fundraising capacity.

Qualifications

  • Development/Fundraising: Proven success in resource development with experience in fundraising from multiple donor channels and stewardship of funding sources;

  • Project Leadership: Experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to senior managers;

  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships to forge new ones;

  • Communications: Skilled in creating compelling written and oral communications for fundraising. Capable of mastering CSI’s complex program work and translating it into clear, powerful concepts that capture our vision, goals and unique approach;

  • Influential: Gets others to accept ideas by using convincing arguments, creates a win-win situation and responds appropriately to key stakeholders;

  • Collaborative: Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives;

  • Relationship Building: Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization and externally;

  • Detailed Oriented: Highly organized, with meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to balance priorities and move ahead multiple projects with short- and long-term deadlines;

  • Passionate and informed about racial and other social justice issues.


SUPERVISION:

The Development Officer reports to and is supported by the Vice President, Marketing and Communications.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to racial justice;

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with 5 or more years of development work;

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • Strong communication skills, written and oral;

  • Open to and easily embrace new technology that supports workplace effectiveness;

  • Expert at Word, Powerpoint, Excel and knowledge of Salesforce and Access are a plus;

  • Friendly, collaborative, upbeat work style is highly desirable.
