Soon after Hurricane Katrina brought devastation to much of the Gulf Coast, CSI began working with allies, including the Poverty Race Resource Action Council and the New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center, to advocate for swift and effective government investment in rebuilding the Gulf Coast.  Out of this work came the Gulf Coast Leaders Network, an effort to create a unified regional network of advocates for equitable transformation of the region. This network began meeting in 2007 with participation from community leaders and activists from Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. Renamed the Deep South Leaders Network, it provides a platform for the exchange of advice and information, and the development of long-term strategies for deep social change across the region.
